Atheism is about being proud to say “I don’t know”
people saying (possibly unfounded) things about agnostics. There are lots of ‘strong’ agnostics. Strong agnosticism is in opposition to any firm stance on the existence of the divine. And stands in contrast to ‘personal’ agnosticism; the personal agnostic only making a claim about their own ignorance.
Strong agnostics come, like any group of people, in all sorts of flavors; asshole, self righteous, annoying, bubbly, warm, cynical, hysterical, etc. Making sweeping judgements about their character based on a single aspect of their lives is as ridiculous as it has always been. Suggesting that they don’t exist (even if you’ve never met one)? That’s just arrogant.
I’m not suggesting they don’t exist, I’m saying that it’s not the agnosticism part that makes those people annoying. I’m saying those people would be twats whether they believed, didn’t believe or, as was the case in Ross’s experience, were uncertain of their beliefs.
