Am I the only one getting REALLY CONFUSED?

I watch a handful of shows: Big Bang Theory, Castle, Dexter, Dollhouse, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother. (and as of tonight, Stargate:Universe)

This fall season so far, at least one character—recurring, regular or sporadic—from every single one of these shows has shown up for a part in one of the other shows.

It’s like Hollywood has begun recycling actors and actresses from the meager sample of 6 shows that I watch and re-use them across the same sample of shows. It’s utterly confusing when, like me, you catch up to two-three weeks of having missed the shows, all in one or two sittings.

First time it happened, I was like, “huh, funny”. Second time: “Wow, weird.” Third time: “Okay that’s just a freaky series of coincidences…” Fourth time: “STOP DOING THIS TO ME, HOLLYWOOD.”

Yes, I know it’s just because these actors and actresses are hot button items right now, but geeze… come on!

So, it seems like “The Gathering Storm” is an odd title for the last book in a long series.  For me, a gathering storm implies the start of something.  Something that might be followed by “The Storm Breaks” and “The Sun Finally Shines Again”.  Or, if the story arc is a bit darker, then the follow-up titles might be “The Rain and Lightning is Really Something, eh?” and “Holy crap, That Storm Just Wiped out the Entire Human Race”.  Either way, I just don’t feel closure with a title like “The Gathering Storm”.  Aaron’s editorial note to Mr. Jordan:  “Hey, how about ‘The Gathered Storm’?  Just a thought.”

And then moments later:

Okay, I need to do more research before complaining.  “The Gathering Storm” isn’t the last book after all.  It is the first book of the final volume.  Disregard rant.   Insert pleasant commentary of said book.

Bear in mind, he hasn’t read the books.

TL;DR

(The books, not this post.)

Bear in mind also that Mr. Jordan is sadly no longer alive to change the titles anyway. :(

On dream jobs.

dearcoketalk:

Dream jobs are incredibly rare these days. Rocky relationships with dubious salvage potential are a dime a dozen.

Dream jobs are also very often too good to be true. Most people don’t really know what (or who) they want, most of the time.

(note: not saying the advice should have been different, just saying the argument made is not flawless at all)

“A million New Yorkers are good without God. Are you?” → rnw.nl

Frustrated New Yorkers in the habit of muttering ‘for God’s sake’ under their breath as they suffer on crowded trains, may soon think twice about the content of their curses. A poster campaign launched by American atheist groups today will see anti-religious messages plastered across metro stations. This is just the kind of good news, they say, that the city needs to get it thinking.

“A million New Yorkers are good without God. Are you?” That is the question being asked of commuters in the city’s subway stations, which see more than five million passengers every day.

15% of Americans are non-believers, and that’s excluding all the infants, toddlers and kindergartners who haven’t been “given” a faith yet. Looks like England’s Atheist Bus Campaign is starting to catch on in the US.

“Tina Beatie in her book The New Atheists: The Twilight of Reason and the War of Religion maintains that atheists are engaged in religious belief themselves because naturalists as authors such as Dawkins and Hitchens use their own beliefs to invest their life with meaning. Ironic, isn’t it?” —

Er, no. Not ironic. Ms Beatie is just wrong. And you’re a fool for quoting her, Dvir.

Atheism | anti-religion | Christopher Hitchins | Richard Dawkins | Dvir Abramovich

(via indefensible)

I think it’s interesting to further investigate why people think belief is the same as religion. They’re not the same at all, and Serenity should’ve taught everyone that by now.

Wait…

If I don’t see a picture of the two of you spooning, this’ll be the end of the line for us, Mr. Shirt.

Too many people would get jealous, but most notably, the darling gf. So, no pictures will be posted.

(not saying there won’t be spooning)

(though I’m also not saying I put out on a first date)

Hrm. I may have a problem.

I just spent 30+ minutes naming the events in my iPhoto.

NOT sorting photos or rating them for how good & usable they are.

NOT doing any touching up, tweaking, editing, stitching or HDR-merging.

NOT reducing the number of photos by deleting all the failed shots.

No, I just named a bunch of events.

And that alone already took over 30 minutes.

(my events now average to having 150 photos per event)

Good thing I’m not, like, chilling out with my mom next to me or anything.

This *may* come as a shock to you … but I think she knows what it is.

LOLLERTRUFFLE.

It was more about the fact that I’d then have to explain that, yes, my friends on this site called “Tumblr”—yes, another one without a vowel, it’s a thing, don’t ask—no, don’t ask what it means when something is “a thing” either—occasionally post pictures or drawings of genitals and other not-entirely-safe-for-prying-eyes content.
